Social Network Analysis: Abstract

Social network analysis is a tool that can be used by journalists to improve public life in the community the journalist serves. This project was based on a social network analysis of community organizations in the Lake Tahoe area. It explores how information is shared between organizations and what types of relationships the organizations have with one another. It also looks at how those organizations function within the community and how the use of social network analysis can encourage participation by more citizens. Finally, the future application of social network analysis by journalists is looked at. The use of content management systems and databases can improve the overall functionality of a community and journalists can be the main facilitators in that improvement.
